Read on to discover more about our diverse range of coco coir fibre products and the benefits this organic material delivers time and time again.
Coir, also known as coco peat, is a by-product of harvested coconuts.
The brown fibrous matter lies between the outer husk and inner hard shell of the coconut. Once removed, the coir fibre is soaked, cleaned and dried, then packed into compressed coir bales or stacks.
From a gardening perspective, coco peat offers a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional peat-based potting soil. And it can take many forms, depending on how and where you’re using it.
For instance, once hydrated, compressed coir is ideal for a multitude of applications, including germinating seeds and establishing root cuttings, as well as providing a base for homemade composts or adding to garden waste composts for aeration purposes.
Alternatively, coconut coir sheets can be used to line planters, improve borders and vegetable beds by adding organic matter. Coir fibre can also be dug into soil to improve the structure and drainage, especially with soft, clay soils.
Coir fibre isn’t limited to gardening applications, either. We offer a specialist range of PetFibre small animal and reptile bedding. The organic coir base provides a convenient bedding alternative that’s all-natural, comfortable and hygienic.
You’ll also find coco coir used in the production of ropes, doormats, rugs and furniture stuffing, making it a versatile and sustainable material for inside and outside the home.
When it comes to buying coco coir, it’s important to know that not all coco coir fibres are the same. So, to ensure you’re buying high-quality coconut coir that’s going to be kind to your garden and our planet, shop with FertileFibre.
